Have Fun, But Be Safe In Vegas

Las Vegas has been the top destination for American trade shows for 13 years. Vegas hosted 45 of the country's top 200 trade shows last year, and 6 of the top 10. Las Vegas is also the most popular destination for RVing gaming enthusiasts.

While it is common for RVers to be able to safely dry camp for free in casino parking lots in other parts of the country, it's not a good idea to do it in Vegas. As in any large metropolitan area, a motor home left unattended in an open parking lot poses grave safety and security concerns.

The centerpiece of Las Vegas is the 3+-mile-long portion of Las Vegas Boulevard where you'll find some of the most fabulous casinos in the world. The premier RV destination in Vegas is the KOA at Circus Circus because it is the only RV Park located directly on the Strip. There are two RV Parks located at casinos on Boulder Highway and one is downtown. There are also lots of nice RV Parks in Vegas with camping fees that range from inexpensive to moderate to pricey. Many of them provide free transportation to the Strip.

FREE SHOWS IN VEGAS
The newly-released third edition of Casino Camping includes a listing of some of Las Vegas's free shows and attractions. The book is now available in the bookstore.

I recently stayed at the Oasis on Las Vegas Blvd. It's a huge RV Park and seemed to have everything you could want. Pretty high cost, though. Family we have in Vegas said the ones on Boulder Hwy were in a bad area so I went for the higher price. I'm going to be returning to Vegas in Sept, probably staying a couple of weeks at least. Surely there are safe/comfortable RV Parks over on Boulder Hwy for less??? As a woman alone, new to the RV lifestyle, would appreciate opinions on this.

I have stayed at the KOA at circus-circus. It is a nice centrally located park, but I felt it was a little pricey for what you got.

Suzann: Sam's Town Casino is located on Boulder Highway in Las Vegas and has an excellent RV Park that is continually patrolled by security. They have 500 sites, reasonable rates and their reservation number is 800-634-6371.

We don't go to Vegas very often, but when we do we stay at Sam's Town on Boulder Highway. We have never had any problems or head about any problems.

RIO casino is RV friendly and they allow overnight parking in their north-east lot. have stayed there 3 times and the casino provides free shuttle to strip. never a concern for safety but then again i am 6' tall and weigh in at 230. if you plan on going send an e mail to see if policy has changed.

You say Las Vegas is not a safe place to leave your RV unattended but then you continue with "as in any large metropolitan area." You seem to be saying don't leave your rig unattended in any large city and, further, you go on to extol the virtues of staying in Las Vegas. Mixed and unclear message here.

We recently spent a couple of weeks in Las Vegas, NV, at the Circus Circus KOA & really enjoyed it. The Strip was just a short walk, or if you're not up to walking, free Golf Cart Shuttles to Circus Circus are provided. The campground is a bit pricey, but I felt it was well worth the cost. The campground is fenced & reasonably well lit, so I felt quite safe. I used the monorail, which is accessable at either the Hilton or Sahara, to travel to locations further south on The Strip; however, there is a bus stop on The Strip practically right in front of Circus Circus. The Circus Circus KOA gets my vote for convenience & safety.

I have stayed in several RV parks on Boulder Hwy.
They are nowhere near as nice as Oasis, but are a fraction of the price, as low as $15-20 a night.

Try Sams
not on the strip, but clean and when we stayed there in 2000, rather inexpensive

Three weeks ago we stayed at Main St Station RV Park.
Main St, just north of Boulder Highway. Pretty basic. Full hookups, laundry and thats it. $16 or $19. Not sure what the differences were. Ours was $19 p/n. Didn't ask about weekly rates.
Felt quite safe in the downtown area.

We recently stayed in Henderson, which is just a short distance south of Las Vegas on Boulder Hwy. However the campground was also a trailer park and although only $17 a nite with Passport, it was difficult parking because of the narrow spots. We tried other campgrounds in Las Vegas and the ones that were "reasonable" were full. We didn't call ahead for reservations which is a mistake and the ones who did have something available were out of our price range. So my suggestion is to contact the tourist information and request a list of campgrounds and call well ahead of time. Good Luck. We do intend to go back but will start 2 months ahead of time to find a reasonable campground.

I would advise you to just "bite the bullet and stay at Circus Circus", use your KOA card for its discount value; you'll spend 30-40 per night, not bad for its location -- right ON the strip, so all the strip attractions are easy walking distance,,, so, no need to drive in the congested traffic!@!

Have fun, don't get hung up on the $30 or $35 daily rate...

I have been staying a Sams Town for well over 8 years, I like it, it is a way, from the main stream, yet, I can catch a bus, (free) at the casino, and go to the new strip, or the old. I have never had any problems there, as a matter of fact I jut pulled in 2 days ago and plan to spend 2 months here. I love the casino, restraunts and the people, sometimes I don't even go down town.

Two years ago we went to Las Vegas and stayed at Sam's town on Boulder Highway. It was a really nice park and inexpensive. I would go there again, only not in June. Too Hot!!
